No site export
Wix does not provide a way to export a site or move it to another host. Page text, images, and files have to be collected page by page, and only certain lists, such as products and contacts, can be exported as CSV. Leaving means rebuilding rather than transferring.
Template switching means starting over
In the classic Wix Editor a site cannot be switched to a different template after it is created; changing the design means rebuilding the pages in a new site. A growth-driven redesign therefore costs nearly as much as a first build, without the benefit of leaving the platform.
Performance is capped by the platform
Every Wix page ships the platform framework plus the code for each app installed on it. Wix has improved load times meaningfully, but you cannot strip what you do not use, so a content-heavy site or a page with several apps can struggle to hold good Core Web Vitals.
App subscriptions add up
Many features a growing business needs, such as bookings, reviews, forms with logic, or events, come from Wix apps or the Wix App Market, and the useful tiers are often paid monthly. The total can quietly exceed the plan price, and each app stays tied to the Wix site.
Custom logic stays inside Wix
Velo, Wix's developer platform, allows JavaScript and a built-in database, which is genuinely useful. But the code, data collections, and APIs only work inside Wix, so a quote tool or customer portal built with Velo cannot be lifted out later.

The migration

- Domain: a domain bought through Wix stays yours and can be repointed or transferred (new registrations carry a standard 60-day transfer lock); email through Google Workspace bought via Wix keeps working.
- Content: page text, images, and files are collected and reused; products and contacts move via CSV export; blog posts are copied over and reformatted.
- URLs and search equity: old Wix URLs are mapped to permanent redirects so search engines and existing links follow the move.
- What changes: the template and every installed app are replaced by native features, and the Wix Editor is replaced by the editing setup agreed during discovery.
- What does not carry over: the design itself, Wix app data such as booking history or reviews unless the app offers an export, and any Velo code or data collections, which are rebuilt.
